Yoga Sangha

A 21st Century Yoga Community

Yoga really does work on every level, for everyone! Last year, we introduced a multi-tiered yoga and meditation program at a children's care home in Grenada (Caribbean), as part of the charity REACH Grenada (http://www.reachgrenada.org) that I co-founded in 2008.

Twice weekly one-hour classes were offered to adult care givers and the children participated in special kids yoga twice weekly classes. The adult classes were hatha yoga inspired and at the end of each class the participants listened to an 18-minute deep guided relaxation audio track. The kids classes were inspired by the wonderful curriculum developed by Karma Kids Yoga in NYC (http://www.karmakidsyoga.com) and at the end of each 45 mins class, a short 5-minute guided relaxation, visualization and meditation track was played through an ipod (http://www.yogawithneo.com/yogadownloads).

The program was a big success! When surveyed, care home staff & management as well as Lindsay Eagleton (REACH Grenada Yoga Program Manager) report that children are more focused and friendlier with one another after their yoga sessions. Management have noticed since the beginning of the yoga program that the overall atmosphere in the home is calmer and that stress levels have reduced amongst staff.

Last November, REACH Grenada partnered with Karma Kids Yoga NYC to train other instructors and we have since begun expanding the yoga programs to other children's homes in Grenada. For more information and photos, please visit (http://www.reachgrenada.org/pictures.php?gid=27)

Thanks Satya, yes the results have been solid, steady and overall quite incredible. All credit to Lindsay Eagleton and Lisa Kasimow who gave so much love and attention to the children throughout program. And a huge thanks Shari and Jen at Karma Kids Yoga in NYC.

If you can do headstand, it is easier to do the Lotus position there then sitting. 62 year old Narayani explains why and demonstrates how to do Urdhva Padmasana, Headstand in Lotus, also called inverted Lotus Position. It is a more advance Hatha Yoga Asana. You should know the basics of Yoga before trying. Even if you can't try, it is beautiful to watch. Recording in Yoga Vidya Ashram Meinberg. In the background you can see a mural of the Kundalini Shakti going through the 7 Chakras.

Happy Spring-time! Looks like we are out of the depths of the dark Swedish winter and into the glory of sun-light!We have some great news to share...in August last year Isa and I had an amazing baby girl called Alaya! And last month we took over a yoga center in Stockholm. Pincha Mayurasana is a variation of the peacock. Pincha means tail feather. It is also a variation of Vrikshasana, the scorpion. At the end you hear a dog barking - this is Ricky, the dog of Shivakami, co-director of Yoga Vidya Ashram. This Asana is demonstrated by Narayani, a 62 year old Yoga teacher and Master. Recording from Yoga Vidya Ashram Meinberg, Germany. Narayani is teaching Yoga Seminars and Teachers Training Courses in Yoga Vidya Germany.
