Had the pleasure to experience two great yoga havens during the early part of this year and would love to share. The first is Nosara in Costa Rica, which is a sleepy, small surf town, a little similar to how Byron Bay, Australia was many moons ago. Its worth checking out Pacha Mama commune (http://www.pachamama.com), a dusty oasis located in the middle of the jungle. The place is run by Tyohar, a talented Israeli DJ and disciple of Osho, and you can enjoy daily hatha and anusara-inspired classes. Another great place to check out is Harmony hotel (http://www.harmonynosara.com), a little more upmarket, a really nice place to chill and to enjoy some quality beach time. Classes varied in quality but Monica was great, she teaches anusara-insired classes and was generous in giving hands on adjustments. Perched on top of a hill is Blue Spirit retreat center (http://www.bluespiritcostarica.com). The place is 'Wow!' and they offer group retreats for up to 100 people. Less intimate but definitely worth checking out.
From Costa Rica I traveled to Mysore, India for the month of March to study with Vinay Kumar (pictured), the back bending sensation. Vinay is young but has such a deep connection to his body and the art of yoga, he naturally inspires dedication and devotion. His studio is basic and located in the area that used to be home to the old ashtanga yoga research institute. Expect to work hard and to practice with a serene intensity that is guaranteed to dust body cobwebs and bring about changes in mind. Minimum sign up is one month, I opted for the 'intense' program - morning vinyasa, pranayama and bhajan followed by afternoon back bending class. Was worth every rupee and drop of sweat. Check out Vinay's site at (http://www.pranavashya.com). Namaste, Neo
